Comparing to other bio-based plastic materials, PLA has features of lower cost, lower carbon emission and higher availability. Theses unique characters make PLA become the most popular biodegradable and compostable alternative to plastic.

The most general application for PLA is in light manufacturing industry, the techniques adopted are variously depending on the need, they are extrusion, injection molding, film blowing and spinning.

After modification, PLA is able to hold up in more complicated situation, which makes it more qualified in application for disposable tableware and packaging.

Most of bio-based plastic are suitable for virus and mold to attach, which concerns health issues. However, PLA is the only bio-based plastic that has the significant effect against the growth of virus and mold.
