VIKINGS & GODDESSES PIE SWITCHED TO COMPOSTABLE FILM PACKAGING FOR FROZEN PRODUCTS

Vikings & Goddesses Pie is leading the way in eco-friendly frozen baking with compostable packaging. The company has teamed up with Elk Packaging to contribute to sustainability by using Futamura's NatureFlex films to create packaging solutions that are easy to compost and require no additional stickers or padding.

Vikings & Goddesses Pie has introduced a new compostable packaging on three product SKUs that combines a NatureFlex high-barrier cellulose film layer with a certified compostable biofilm layer for airtight packaging. NatureFlex films are made from forest wood pulp and are BPI and TUV certified for excellent compostability. Biofilm seals from North American suppliers are also certified to be compostable, with properties similar to LDPE. The packaging structure is certified by BPI for commercial composting environment, exceeding ASTM D6400 standards, and fully decomposes in 84 days. The packaging material is durable and composable to adapt to the freezing environment while maintaining integrity. Jean Cloutier, Director of Elk Packaging, said the new packaging solves the challenges of printing, transparency, freezing resistance and BPI certification for use in crowded frozen Spaces. Material conversion equipment is low cost, only need to add a new film compatible heat sealing machine.

Cloutier expression:The new packaging exceeds ATSM 6400 compostability standards while maintaining adequate durability in a frozen environment
